The project was part of an internship me and Thomas White (Another York St John Student) were a part of through 2021.
The project brief was to work with Caroline's Rainbow Foundation to create a Virtual Reality experience that helped to prepare people for their upcoming travel in different countries.
We started out with a scenario of travelling though an airport as this is where most people would start their travel journey. We built a dialogue system as well as crafting the environment and actual narrative of the scenario with help from Richard and Joe from the charity.
As of August 2021 we are working on a new scenario which involves driving through the outback of Australia!
Check out this video which shows some of the VR experience!
We are currently developing the Road Trip scenario which will take the player from Sydney airport through to Brisbane. We have been working on a driving system which allows the players to drive along multiple routes and have interactions along the way. The aim is to give an idea of how to stay safe when travelling on the road through Australia and how to deal with the challenges that can happen along the way.
There are multiple cars to choose from as well as many different encounters along the way. We are figuring out how to make the environment the best it can be and how to integrate the traffic system which we should be able to show off soon!
As you can probably tell from this portfolio, I am a big fan of VR development. I love to find new ways to experience VR and create fun experiences, alongside normal game design of course. However, being a part of this internship experience has helped me learn many skills.
Not only did the internship give me experience in working on a project in a team and managing my time with my colleagues, I was able to learn some new skills of actually developing mechanics for the project and designing those specifically for this project. I think my skills working with others are very good and this project has allowed me to gain more experience with working as such.
