My name is James Moore, I currently work in QA for StoryToys having worked at Team17 and finished a Masters at York St John University for VR&AR. For as long as I can remember I have been playing video games, to the point that even back in my primary school education, I knew I wanted to make games. I remember creating a drawing for a book about how I wanted to "create games for the world".I aspire to be a fully fledged game designer as that is what I most enjoy doing, however, I also enjoy 3D modelling and story work. Below you can see my projects and work in more detail.
I LOVE game design, and I have moulded a lot of my skills to the overall aspects of game design including designing new and interesting mechanics as well as other aspects of design which you can see in my various projects.
I have spent a lot of my time in Unreal Engine 4 and have become very familiar with the engine and its blueprinting system. Obviously there will always be things to learn and I look forward to learning more!
I like to class my humour as one of my greatest skills, and I love to apply it to my design. I think that humour makes for some interesting design decisions and overall it helps to create an environment that's fun and friendly.
C# is a scripting language that I am actively learning. I have had some experience with it and know some of the basics however I want to get better for developing within Unity.
I have been modelling for a long time in my projects, I have the most experience in MAYA and if needed can make models to a good quality.
Working in a team is something that I find super important when developing, being able to bounce ideas around and work on them together is a great way to problem solve and I work extremely well with others in that environment.
I have been working in Unreal Engine 4 for the best part of the last five years since my time in college. I am extremely familiar with the blueprinting system and while I don't express to know everything about it I enjoy figuring out new ways of using it for my projects.
I have been using Unity for the last five years, I performed some of my university projects in it. I have some basic knowledge of C# from those projects however I endeavour to learn more in order to make more projects in Unity in the future.
I have been using photoshop for around seven years as I started during high school making images. I then used it even more often when it came to studying game design to create any textures that I needed.
I have been using Maya since my college course back in 2014, I have made many models in it and I am very familiar with how it works. Some of these models can be seen in the "Other Projects" section.
3D Coat is a software which I found was very useful in the creation of textures and materials for my projects, It was most useful for me when unwrapping UVs and being able to use the feature that allowed for the texture to be live updated from a photoshop file!
Throughout all my education, I have become very familiar with the office programs and how they work. As I'm sure you have no doubt, I know the software here inside out.
I have always loved games and knew that I wanted to be able to design experiences like the ones I have enjoyed over the years. As soon as I left school I made my first steps by going to collage to study Game Design which then lead me to enrolling at York St John University for game design and achieving a Class 1.
During my time I learnt many skills and expanded my knowledge of design. I later went on to complete my Masters in Virtual and Augmented Reality due to my enjoyment of developing some VR projects throughout University.
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to create games. They are the one thing that I can see myself doing for the rest of my life, I love everything about them and it has always been my dream to work within a studio creating exciting games and experiences.
There has never been a moment in my life which has made me change that dream, and I hope with enough work I can be the best I can and work with amazing developers on amazing games.
As I said, game design is my passion. I often wake up at night with new game ideas or fun mechanic ideas. With guidance from my tutor Andy Sandham at York St John I learnt about technical design and how my skills align with that roll. I love creating new and interesting mechanics and experiences, figuring out how these will work is part of the fun for me. I would love to be able to work with a team where I was able to create these concepts together.
